(Angus Reid Global Monitor) – Many adults in the United States have high hopes on their president-elect, according to a poll by Opinion Dynamics released by Fox News. 43 per cent of respondents think Barack Obama will be a good president, while 19 per cent say he will be one of the country’s greatest heads of state.

In addition, 23 per cent of respondents believe Obama will be an average president, five per cent foresee a below average tenure, and six per cent expect him to be one of the worst American heads of state.

In American elections, candidates require 270 votes in the Electoral College to win the White House. On Nov. 4, Obama secured a majority of electoral votes, defeating Republican candidate John McCain. Obama will become the first African American president in U.S. history when he takes over from George W. Bush—who served two four-year terms—on Jan. 20, 2009.

On Dec. 17, Obama named former Iowa governor Tom Vilsack as his agriculture secretary, saying, " As governor of one of our most abundant farm states, he led with vision, promoting biotech to strengthen our farmers and fostering an agricultural economy of the future that not only grows the food we eat, but the energy we use. Tom understands that the solution to our energy crisis will be found not in oil fields abroad but in our farm fields here at home. That is the kind of leader I want in my cabinet."
