(Angus Reid Global Monitor) – Some American adults appear concerned about fiscal policy under their president-elect, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 33 per cent of respondents expect their personal taxes to go up under an administration headed by Barack Obama.

Conversely, 16 per cent of respondents expect to pay lower taxes, while 39 per cent believe they will stay the same.

In addition, 55 per cent of respondents express preference for a tax policy that helps the economy grow, while 38 per cent would rather have regulations that ensure that everyone pays their fair share.

In American elections, candidates require 270 votes in the Electoral College to win the White House. On Nov. 4, Democratic nominee Obama secured a majority of electoral votes, defeating Republican candidate John McCain. Obama will become the first African American president in U.S. history when he takes over from George W. Bush—who served two four-year terms—on Jan. 20, 2009.

On Dec. 6, Obama discussed his economic policies, saying, "I have asked my economic team to develop an economic recovery plan for both Wall Street and Main Street that will help save or create at least two and a half million jobs, while rebuilding our infrastructure, improving our schools, reducing our dependence on oil, and saving billions of dollars. We won’t do it the old Washington way. We won’t just throw money at the problem. We’ll measure progress by the reforms we make and the results we achieve—by the jobs we create, by the energy we save, by whether America is more competitive in the world."
