(Angus Reid Global Monitor) – The governing Labour Party (DNA) is barely clinging to first place in Norway, according to a poll by TNS Gallup released by TV2. 30.4 per cent of respondents would vote for Labour in next year’s election, up 2.1 points since June.
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) – The governing Labour Party (DNA) is barely clinging to first place in Norway, according to a poll by TNS Gallup released by TV2. 30.4 per cent of respondents would vote for Labour in next year’s election, up 2.1 points since June.
The opposition Progress Party (FrP) is a close second with 29.2 per cent, followed by the Conservatives (H) with 15.4 per cent, the Liberal Left (V) with 6.3 per cent, the Socialist Left (SV) with 5.7 per cent, the Agrarians (Sp) with 4.8 per cent, and the Christian People (KrF) with 4.2 per cent.
In September 2005, Norwegian voters renewed the Stortinget (the Norwegian Parliament). Final results gave the Red-Green alliance—encompassing Labour, the Socialist Left and the Agrarians—87 seats in the 169-member legislative branch. Labour leader Jens Stoltenberg—who held the highest office from March 2000 to October 2001—took over as prime minister for the second time.
In this survey, the level of support for the governing parties stands at 40.9 per cent, while the two main opposition forces—Progress and the Conservatives—reach 44.6 per cent.
On Sept. 4, Stoltenberg pledged to spend "tens of billions of crowns" in public transportation—including rail—over a period of ten years starting in 2009 if he is re-elected.
The next legislative election is expected to take place in September 2009.
