Bush’s rating stands at 28 per cent in a study by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, down seven points since October 2007.
Bush—a Republican—earned a second four-year term in the November 2004 presidential election. The U.S. president’s approval rating has not surpassed the 40 per cent mark in a national survey since December 2006.
On May 12, Bush discussed his global views, saying, "A top priority of our foreign policy is squarely in the Middle East. We got Iraq, we got Lebanon, we got Iran, and of course we got the (…) peace process between the Palestinians and Israelis, which frankly is moving down the road pretty good. And I hope during my time, before it’s over, we get the vision defined. But it’s—I think any American president is going to be committed to Israel’s existence, and understand the realities and threats in the Middle East."
