(Angus Reid Global Monitor) – Democrat Barack Obama holds the upper hand against Republican John McCain in Iowa, according a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 46 per cent of respondents would back the Illinois senator in the 2008 United States presidential election, while 42 per cent would vote for Republican Arizona senator John McCain.

In a separate contest, McCain holds a 15-point lead over New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
In 2004, Republican George W. Bush carried Iowa’s seven electoral votes, with 50 per cent of all cast ballots. No GOP nominee had carried the Hawkeye State since Ronald Reagan in 1984.
Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 4.
