Bush’s approval rating stands at 32 per cent in a study by Gallup for USA Today, and 31 per cent in a poll by American Research Group.
Bush—a Republican—earned a second four-year term in the November 2004 presidential election. The U.S. president’s approval rating has not surpassed the 40 per cent mark in a national survey since December 2006.
On Nov. 16, Bush met with Japanese prime minister Yasuo Fukuda, declaring, "We’ll continue to work together to advance freedom, security and prosperity in our respective regions and beyond. We discussed a lot of ways that we can make the world a better place by working together. (…) Together with China, Russia and South Korea, our two nations are pressing North Korea to fulfill its obligation to abandon all its nuclear weapons programs, as well as its proliferation efforts."
