Georgia Would Remain Red in 2008 U.S. Election

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) – Republican Rudy Giuliani could carry the Peach State in the 2008 United States presidential election, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. At least 48 per cent of respondents in Georgia would vote for the former New York City mayor in head-to-head contests against two prospective Democratic rivals.

At least 48 per cent of respondents in Georgia would vote for the former New York City mayor in head-to-head contests against two prospective Democratic rivals.

Giuliani holds a four-point lead over New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, and a 14-point advantage over Illinois senator Barack Obama. In separate contests, actor and former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson leads Rodham Clinton by three points, and Obama by nine points.

In 2004, Republican George W. Bush won Georgia’s 15 electoral votes, with 58 per cent of all cast ballots. No Democrat has carried the Peach State since Bill Clinton in 1992.

Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next United States presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.
