(Angus Reid Global Monitor) – Public confidence in France’s president and prime minister fell this month, according to two recent public opinion polls. In a survey by Ifop published in Le Journal du Dimanche, 59 per cent of respondents are satisfied with the performance of Nicolas Sarkozy, and 53 per cent feel the same way about François Fillon.

In a survey by Ifop published in Le Journal du Dimanche, 59 per cent of respondents are satisfied with the performance of Nicolas Sarkozy, and 53 per cent feel the same way about François Fillon.
In a study by BVA published in L’Express, 55 per cent of respondents have a good opinion of Sarkozy’s performance, and 43 per cent feel the same way about Fillon’s.
In May, Sarkozy, a centre-right Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) candidate and former interior minister, won the presidential run-off with 53.06 per cent of the vote. Sarkozy appointed François Fillon—who had been his adviser and presidential campaign leader—as prime minister.
On Oct. 24, during a summit with business and environmental leaders, Fillon discussed the possible implementation of tougher guidelines to reduce France’s overall environmental impact, saying, "This may be the start of a whole new kind of governance. We are in the process of reconciling ecology and economic development."
