(CPOD) Apr. 25, 2003 – Americans believe either of their most important political parties would do a good job handling the economy, according to a poll by the New York Times and CBS News. The Republican and Democratic parties each got the support of 42 per cent of respondents.

The focus in the United States has turned to the 2004 presidential race. In 1991, coming off the first Gulf War, president George H. Bush enjoyed high approval ratings, but lost his 1992 re-election bid to Democrat Bill Clinton, mostly because of poor economic prospects and the loss of nearly 2 million jobs.
