(CPOD) May 11, 2003 – More Canadians condone the war in Iraq, according to a poll by Léger Marketing. 46 per cent of respondents say military action against Saddam Hussein’s regime was justified, a 13 per cent increase since March.
(CPOD) May 11, 2003 – More Canadians condone the war in Iraq, according to a poll by Léger Marketing. 46 per cent of respondents say military action against Saddam Hussein’s regime was justified, a 13 per cent increase since March.
Canada’s refusal to join the coalition strained diplomatic relations within North America. United States Ambassador Paul Celluci stated that his country was “upset and disappointed” over the decision, and president George W. Bush cancelled a visit to Ottawa. The Canadian government recently committed $106 million U.S. to humanitarian efforts in Iraq, as well as engineers, police, legal advisors and prison officials.
Support for the war was highest in Alberta and Atlantic Canada, and lowest in Quebec and British Columbia. 67 per cent of all respondents say the conflict will not reduce the threat of international terrorism.
