(CPOD) Sept. 11, 2003 – Cruz Bustamante maintains the lead in the California recall election, according to a poll by Field. 30 per cent of respondents will vote for the state’s current Lieutenant Governor, while 25 per cent will support actor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Republican Tom McClintock is third with 13 per cent after a good showing on the first debate. Former baseball commissioner Peter Ueberroth –who withdrew from the race this week– placed fourth. In all, 135 names will be listed on the recall ballot. The election will take place on Oct. 7.
Governor Gray Davis – re-elected just last November – has suffered from low approval ratings as a result of the state’s energy crisis and budget deficit.
