(CPOD) Oct. 10, 2003 – The citizens of Paraguay have confidence in their future economic prospects, according to a poll by CADEP. 50 per cent of respondents expect the country’s financial situation to improve in the next year.
(CPOD) Oct. 10, 2003 – The citizens of Paraguay have confidence in their future economic prospects, according to a poll by CADEP. 50 per cent of respondents expect the country’s financial situation to improve in the next year.
Newly elected president Nicanor Duarte has promised a crackdown on corruption, which will in turn mean healthier finances for the country. A third of all Paraguayans live below the poverty line, and unemployment figures range from 18 to 35 per cent, depending on the source.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has scheduled a meeting for the end of 2003, to assess whether Paraguay will receive a $200 million U.S. contingency loan.
