ANC Holds Commanding Lead In South Africa

(CPOD) Nov. 21, 2003 – The African National Congress (ANC) continues to be the top political force in South Africa, according to a poll by the Human Sciences Research Council. 45.8 per cent of respondents would support the ANC in an election.

(CPOD) Nov. 21, 2003 – The African National Congress (ANC) continues to be the top political force in South Africa, according to a poll by the Human Sciences Research Council. 45.8 per cent of respondents would support the ANC in an election.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) leads all opposition parties with 4.4 per cent, followed by the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and the New National Party (NNP). 32.6 per cent of respondents are undecided. The next general election in South Africa will take place on Aug. 2, 2004.

In the 1999 suffrage, the ANC got 66.4 per cent of the vote, and 266 members in the 400-seat National Assembly. Thabo Mbeki was then chosen to replace Nelson Mandela as South Africa’s president.
