(CPOD) Dec. 1, 2003 – Many voters believe Kim Beazley should substitute Simon Crean as leader of the Australian Labor Party (ALP), according to a poll by McNair Ingenuity Research published in the Sunday Mail. 47 per cent of respondents say Beazley should command the ALP in the next election.
(CPOD) Dec. 1, 2003 – Many voters believe Kim Beazley should substitute Simon Crean as leader of the Australian Labor Party (ALP), according to a poll by McNair Ingenuity Research published in the Sunday Mail. 47 per cent of respondents say Beazley should command the ALP in the next election.
Beazley led the party from March 1996 to November 2001. Crean served as leader for the last two years, never facing the ruling Liberal/National coalition in an election.
The ALP’s foreign affairs spokesman Kevin Rudd was second with 20 per cent, and shadow treasurer Mark Latham was third, with 18 per cent. Rudd has already thrown his support behind Beazley.
ALP members will choose their new leader tomorrow. The next general election is scheduled for November 2004.
