(CPOD) Jan. 29, 2004 – North Carolina senator John Edwards remains the first choice for Democratic voters in South Carolina, according to a poll by Survey USA released by WCSC-TV. 32 per cent of respondents would support Edwards in the state’s presidential primary, a 15 per cent lead over retired general Wesley Clark.
(CPOD) Jan. 29, 2004 – North Carolina senator John Edwards remains the first choice for Democratic voters in South Carolina, according to a poll by Survey USA released by WCSC-TV. 32 per cent of respondents would support Edwards in the state’s presidential primary, a 15 per cent lead over retired general Wesley Clark.
Former Vermont governor Howard Dean leads the rest of the field with 16 per cent, followed by Massachusetts senator John Kerry with 13 per cent. Seven states –Arizona, Delaware, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, North Dakota and South Carolina– will hold votes on Feb. 3.
Kerry won the New Hampshire primary on Jan. 27, as well as the Iowa caucus on Jan. 19. Edwards recently rejected the idea of becoming a vice-presidential candidate in case he fails to secure the Democratic nomination.
George W. Bush won South Carolina’s eight electoral votes in 2000, with 57 per cent of all cast ballots. No Democrat has carried the state since Jimmy Carter in 1976.
