Kerry With Big Lead In Michigan

(CPOD) Jan. 30, 2004 – Massachusetts senator John Kerry leads all Democratic presidential hopefuls in Michigan, according to a poll by EPIC/MRA. 37 per cent of respondents would support Kerry in the state’s caucus, a 23 per cent lead over former Vermont governor Howard Dean and North Carolina senator John Edwards.

(CPOD) Jan. 30, 2004 – Massachusetts senator John Kerry leads all Democratic presidential hopefuls in Michigan, according to a poll by EPIC/MRA. 37 per cent of respondents would support Kerry in the state’s caucus, a 23 per cent lead over former Vermont governor Howard Dean and North Carolina senator John Edwards.

Retired general Wesley Clark leads the rest of the field with 10 per cent. Connecticut senator Joe Lieberman, who registered 27 per cent in a survey conducted in May 2003, is in fifth place with five per cent.

Kerry won the New Hampshire primary on Jan. 27, as well as the Iowa caucus on Jan. 19. Dean finished third in Iowa and second in New Hampshire.

The Michigan caucus will take place on Feb. 7. Seven states –Arizona, Delaware, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, North Dakota and South Carolina– will hold votes on Feb. 3.

Michigan is considered as a key swing state in the 2004 election. Democrat Al Gore won the state’s 18 electoral votes in 2000, with 51 per cent of the vote. The last Republican to carry Michigan was George H. Bush in 1988.
