Kerry Keeps Pace In Arizona

(CPOD) Feb. 2, 2004 – Massachusetts senator John Kerry is holding on to the lead among Democratic presidential hopefuls in Arizona, according to a poll by Zogby America released by MSNBC and Reuters. 36 per cent of respondents would support Kerry in the state’s primary, a 12 per cent edge over retired general Wesley Clark.

(CPOD) Feb. 2, 2004 – Massachusetts senator John Kerry is holding on to the lead among Democratic presidential hopefuls in Arizona, according to a poll by Zogby America released by MSNBC and Reuters. 36 per cent of respondents would support Kerry in the state’s primary, a 12 per cent edge over retired general Wesley Clark.

Former Vermont governor Howard Dean is third with 14 per cent, followed by Connecticut senator Joe Lieberman with six per cent. Seven states –Arizona, Delaware, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, North Dakota and South Carolina– will hold votes tomorrow.

Kerry won the New Hampshire primary on Jan. 27, as well as the Iowa caucus on Jan. 19. Clark –who did not participate in Iowa– finished third in New Hampshire.

Arizona’s eight electoral votes went to George W. Bush in the 2000 election. The Republican candidate beat Democrat Al Gore by six per cent. Bill Clinton in 1996 is the only Democrat to have carried the state since 1972.
