Kerry Tops Democrats In North Dakota

(CPOD) Feb. 3, 2004 – Massachusetts senator John Kerry is the first choice for Democrats in North Dakota, according to a poll released by The Fargo Forum and WDAY-TV. 31 per cent of respondents would support Kerry in the state’s caucus, a 16 per cent lead over retired general Wesley Clark.

(CPOD) Feb. 3, 2004 – Massachusetts senator John Kerry is the first choice for Democrats in North Dakota, according to a poll released by The Fargo Forum and WDAY-TV. 31 per cent of respondents would support Kerry in the state’s caucus, a 16 per cent lead over retired general Wesley Clark.

North Carolina senator John Edwards leads the rest of the field with six per cent. 40 per cent of respondents are undecided. Seven states –Arizona, Delaware, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, North Dakota and South Carolina– will hold votes today.

The North Dakota presidential primaries were held in June for many years, until the system was changed into a party-sponsored caucus in 2000.

George W. Bush won North Dakota’s three electoral votes in 2000, with 60.1 per cent of all cast ballots. No Democrat has carried the state since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964.
