Michigan With Kerry By Large Margin

(CPOD) Feb. 7, 2004 – Massachusetts senator John Kerry holds a big lead among Democratic presidential contenders in today’s Michigan caucus, according to a poll by Zogby International released by MSNBC and Reuters. 47 per cent of respondents would support Kerry, a 37 per cent lead over former Vermont governor Howard Dean.

(CPOD) Feb. 7, 2004 – Massachusetts senator John Kerry holds a big lead among Democratic presidential contenders in today’s Michigan caucus, according to a poll by Zogby International released by MSNBC and Reuters. 47 per cent of respondents would support Kerry, a 37 per cent lead over former Vermont governor Howard Dean.

North Carolina senator John Edwards leads the rest of the field with 12 per cent, followed by retired general Wesley Clark with seven per cent. 23 per cent of respondents are undecided.

Kerry has won this year’s Democratic presidential contests in Arizona, Delaware, Iowa, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico and North Dakota. Edwards was the winner in South Carolina, and Clark came in first in Oklahoma. Dean recently stated that a defeat in the Feb. 17 Wisconsin contest could result in his withdrawal from the race.

Michigan is considered as a key swing state in the 2004 election. Democrat Al Gore won the state’s 18 electoral votes in 2000, with 51 per cent of the vote. The last Republican to carry Michigan was George H. Bush in 1988.
