(CPOD) Feb. 10, 2004 – Massachusetts senator John Kerry is the top choice for Democrat voters in Wisconsin, according to a poll by the University of Wisconsin Survey Center released by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. 45 per cent of respondents would like Kerry to be the party’s presidential nominee, a 33 per cent lead over former Vermont governor Howard Dean.
(CPOD) Feb. 10, 2004 – Massachusetts senator John Kerry is the top choice for Democrat voters in Wisconsin, according to a poll by the University of Wisconsin Survey Center released by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. 45 per cent of respondents would like Kerry to be the party’s presidential nominee, a 33 per cent lead over former Vermont governor Howard Dean.
Retired general Wesley Clark leads the rest of the field with 11 per cent, followed by North Carolina senator John Edwards. 15 per cent of respondents are undecided. The Wisconsin primary is scheduled for Feb. 17.
Kerry has won this year’s Democratic presidential contests in Arizona, Delaware, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota and Washington State. Edwards was the winner in South Carolina, and Clark came in first in Oklahoma. Dean recently referred to Wisconsin as a “must-win” state.
Democrat Al Gore carried Wisconsin’s 11 electoral votes in the 2000 election, defeating Bush by just over 5,000 ballots. No Republican has won Wisconsin since 1984, when Ronald Reagan carried every state except Minnesota, home state to then Democratic nominee Walter Mondale.
