Maryland Backs Kerry Over Edwards

(CPOD) Feb. 10, 2004 – Massachusetts senator John Kerry is the top Democratic presidential hopeful in Maryland, according to a poll by Survey USA released by WMAR. 47 per cent of respondents would vote for Kerry in the state’s primary, a 32 per cent lead over North Carolina senator John Edwards.

Former Vermont governor Howard Dean is third with 12 per cent, followed by reverend Al Sharpton. Maryland’s Democratic primary is scheduled for Mar. 2.

Kerry has won this year’s Democratic presidential contests in Arizona, Delaware, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota and Washington State, making him the frontrunner for his party’s nomination.

Democrat Al Gore won Maryland’s 10 electoral votes in the 2000 presidential election, with a 17 per cent lead over Bush. No Republican has carried the state since George H. Bush in 1988.
