Mexico City Backs Mayor After Controversy

(CPOD) Feb. 11, 2004 – Many residents of Mexico City continue to support Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, according to a poll by Reforma. 82 per cent of respondents approve of the mayor’s performance.

(CPOD) Feb. 11, 2004 – Many residents of Mexico City continue to support Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, according to a poll by Reforma. 82 per cent of respondents approve of the mayor’s performance.

Last month, published press reports revealed the mayor’s personal driver Nicolas Mollinedo earns about $5,700 U.S. a month, about $370 U.S. less than Lopez Obrador. The mayor claimed Mollinedo is also a “logistics coordinator” for his government.

Lopez Obrador is considered one of the top presidential hopefuls of the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD). Current head of state Vicente Fox of the National Action Party (PAN) is halfway through his six-year term in office. Voters are set to elect his successor in July 2006.
