National Tops Ruling Labour In New Zealand

(CPOD) Feb. 25, 2004 – The National Party is now the best-rated political organization in New Zealand, according to a Digipoll published in the New Zealand Herald. 45.5 per cent of respondents would support National in the next election, a 23.2 per cent increase since October 2003.

(CPOD) Feb. 25, 2004 – The National Party is now the best-rated political organization in New Zealand, according to a Digipoll published in the New Zealand Herald. 45.5 per cent of respondents would support National in the next election, a 23.2 per cent increase since October 2003.

The ruling Labour Party is now second with 37 per cent, followed by New Zealand First with 5.6 per cent. This past month, National leader Don Brash criticized the government’s “racially-motivated policies,” and pledged to build a “multi-cultural society.”

Current prime minister Helen Clark faces a new crisis after a cabinet resignation. Immigration minister Lianne Dalziel was forced to quit after it was discovered that she had lied to the country’s media outlets about leaking a document related to an asylum case.
