Popular Party Remains On Top In Spain

(CPOD) Mar. 8, 2004 – The ruling Popular Party (PP) remains the top political organization in Spain, according to a poll by Instituto Opina released by Cadena Ser. 41.5 per cent of respondents would vote for the PP in the upcoming general election.

(CPOD) Mar. 8, 2004 – The ruling Popular Party (PP) remains the top political organization in Spain, according to a poll by Instituto Opina released by Cadena Ser. 41.5 per cent of respondents would vote for the PP in the upcoming general election.

The Socialist Worker’s Party (PSOE) is second with 36.5 per cent, followed by United Left (IU), Catalonia’s Convergence and Union (CiU) and the Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC).

On Mar. 6, PSOE leader Jose Luis R. Zapatero criticized PP counterpart Mariano Rajoy for his unwillingness to participate in a direct televised debate, claiming a candidate “who lacks courage” should not become president of the government.

Unemployment and terrorism have been the main topics of discussion during the campaign. The election is scheduled for Mar. 14.
