Dutch Voters Choose Labour In European Ballot

- The Labour party (PvdA) holds the lead among Dutch voters in the elections to the European Parliament, according to a poll by EOS Gallup Europe. 26 per cent of respondents would vote for Labour, while 22 per cent would support the Christian-Democratic Appeal (CDA).

The People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) is third with 20 per cent, followed by the Green Left (GL) with 10 per cent. The election takes place today.

In the 1999 election, the Christian-Democrats received 26.9 per cent of the vote, followed by Labour with 20.1 per cent. The Netherlands will elect 27 lawmakers to the 732-seat European Parliament.
