In Illinois, Kerry Keeps Lead

(CPOD) Oct. 10, 2004 – John Kerry could carry the state of Illinois in the 2004 United States presidential election, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 52 per cent of respondents would vote for the Democratic nominee, while 41 per cent would support Republican incumbent George W. Bush.

(CPOD) Oct. 10, 2004 – John Kerry could carry the state of Illinois in the 2004 United States presidential election, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 52 per cent of respondents would vote for the Democratic nominee, while 41 per cent would support Republican incumbent George W. Bush.

Two per cent of respondents would vote for Michael Badnarik of the Libertarian party, two per cent would back another candidate, and two per cent remain undecided. The election is scheduled for Nov. 2.

Backing for Kerry dropped by two per cent since July, while support for Bush grew by the same margin. In June, the Democrat held a 16 per cent lead over the Republican.

The state’s 22 electoral votes went to Democrat Al Gore in the 2000 election, with 55 per cent of the vote. No Republican has carried Illinois since George H. Bush in 1988.
