(Angus Reid Global Scan) – Adults in the United States will focus on two key topics before casting a ballot in this year’s congressional election, according to a poll by Gallup released by CNN and USA Today. 43 per cent of respondents believe the situation in Iraq and terrorism are extremely important issues.
(Angus Reid Global Scan) – Adults in the United States will focus on two key topics before casting a ballot in this year’s congressional election, according to a poll by Gallup released by CNN and USA Today. 43 per cent of respondents believe the situation in Iraq and terrorism are extremely important issues.
Corruption in government and health care are next on the list of concerns with 43 per cent each, followed by the economy, Social Security, taxes, and gas prices. Less than 30 per cent of respondents believe the government surveillance of U.S. citizens, abortion, immigration, and the Patriot Act will be extremely important electoral issues.
In the November 2004 congressional ballot, the Republican Party elected 232 lawmakers to the House of Representatives, while the Democratic Party secured 202 seats. The Republicans also have a majority in the Senate, with 55 members in the 100-seat upper house.
American voters will renew the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate on Nov. 7.
