Sinhalese Majority Opposed to Sri Lanka / Tamil Deal

(CPOD) Mar. 29, 2003 – A power sharing agreement between the government of Sri Lanka and the rebel Tamil Tigers would not have the support of the majority Sinhalese, according to a poll conducted by the Center for Policy Alternatives. Only 29 per cent of Sinhalese respondents support the proposed deal, compared to 76 per cent of Tamils and 60 per cent of Muslims.

Spaniards Reject War On Iraq

(CPOD) Mar. 29, 2003 – While their president supports the invasion if Iraq, a great majority of Spaniards are against the conflict, according to a poll by Instituto Opina published in daily El Pa­s. 92.4 per cent of respondents reject the war, and 79.7 per cent disapprove of the way president José Mar­a Aznar has handled the crisis.

Anti-American Sentiment Rises in Russia

(CPOD) Mar. 28, 2003 – Negative feelings toward the United States appear to be on the rise in Russia, according to the latest poll by All-Russia Public Opinion Research. 55 per cent of respondents have a negative opinion of the U.S., and only 5 per cent sympathize with the Americans in the current conflict in Iraq.

U.S. Travelers At Ease With New Security Measures

(CPOD) Mar. 27, 2003 – The measures recently implemented in airports in the United States are making travelers feel more secure, according to a poll conducted by Equation Research for USA Today. 78 per cent of airport users think they are safer as a result of the new standards, and 67 per cent are getting used to extra searches and checkpoints.
